Microsoft News: Tech Titan to Make Windows 10 Cortana Available for iOS & Android Devices

The plans of the Redmond-based tech titan Microsoft to make its upcoming operating system Windows 10 available to all platforms will enable people using iOS and Android devices to use the former's virtual assistant Cortana.

According to Christian Today, Microsoft made an announcement in this regard on Tuesday last. The announcement stated that Cortana will be released for other platforms enabling users to link their Windows PC files on their iPhones or smartphones powered by Android without any difficulty. The tech titan also stated that Windows 10 will be made available with an app known as the Phone Companion, which has been particularly developed to help the upcoming operating system to function effectively with all smartphones currently available in the market.

An official statement issued by Microsoft executive Joe Belfiore read, "Regardless of the operating systems you choose across your devices, everything important to you should roam across the products you already own - including your phone."

After the release of Windows 10 OS, users can just connect their smartphones to a computer running on Windows 10, and subsequently the Phone Companion will immediately help install all the phone apps developed by Microsoft into the connected device, counting Microsoft Office, Skype, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive, Music, in addition to the Cortana virtual secretary.

According to Microsoft, iOS and Android devices will be able to experience nearly the entire functions of Cortana in Windows and Windows Phone devices, such as answering questions, providing alerts, in addition to flight tracking. On the other hand, the iOS-compatible Cortana will not be able to perform specific tasks like launching apps, altering the system settings, and responding instantly to hands-free commands.

However, a section of iOS and Android users are not really excited with the news that Cortana will be available in their platforms, as iOS already has Siri and currently Android is offering Google Now. Already, these two exclusive virtual assistants are known to be very user-friendly and they supposedly offer better platform integration and functions.
