Microsoft New Windows 10 Smartphone Build: Spartan Browser & More Featured on Latest Windows 10 Preview
Last week, Microsoft promised that they would begin releasing the second version of the Windows 10 preview for phones. This week, the company is making good on that promise, as the system is being released to Windows Insider users and comes with an early version of the Spartan phone browser.
While it supports nearly all Lumia phones now, it does not support the Lumia Icon, 930 and the 640XL because of issues with scaling on these devices.
Microsoft confirmed this in a blog post, stating, "You'll see that the list has remained largely unchanged with one exception -- the Lumia Icon. Unfortunately, there is an issue with scaling on certain devices (930, Icon, 640XL) which makes the UI too small to be usable, and we need to add code to support new scaling thresholds for these devices."
The system still does not offer support for Microsoft phones that are built by OEMs. It has several new features, similar to those of the earlier version of Project Spartan, which used a new engine for rendering and gives better interoperability within the modern web.
This browser also comes with earlier versions of Reading View and Reading List, even though it is not the default browser and exists along with Internet Explorer 11.
The new built in email and calendar applications for Windows 10 are Outlook Mail and Outlook Calender, which bring a better UI, including a toggle that allows you to move between your email and calendar without having to go through the Start screen.
Outlook Mail has the familiar functions of Word and allows formatting options such as inserting tables, pictures, bullets and more.
