Microsoft Lumia 635 Release Date, Specs: Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile to Carry New Windows Phone 8.1
A release date for the Lumia 635 smartphone has finally been announced for other cellular network carriers besides T-Mobile and AT&T. Evidently the new low-end Windows Phone 8.1 device will be available through Sprint, Boost Mobile, and Virgin Mobile.
Consumers looking to purchase this device through Boost Mobile or Virgin Mobile can do so starting December 23. On the other hand, Sprint subscribers will have to wait until January 16 if they want to pick up the handset.
According to TechTimes, since Microsoft and its Windows Phone smartphone OS isn't as demanded as Google's Android and Apple's iOS, the company has decided to push forward with it by means of their Lumia line of smartphones.
For those that don't know, Microsoft purchased Nokia, which allowed them to retain and produce additional models in the Lumia series of devices.
In a statement put out by Sprint, David Owens, senior vice president of product development had some choice words about the Lumia 635.
He said, "This device is the showpiece for our reinvigorated relationship with Microsoft, and we know our customers will appreciate all they can do with the powerful Windows Phone 8.1 operating system. Our Sprint postpaid customers will experience this device right after the new year."
Moreover, Matt Rothschild, head of North America sales for Microsoft Mobile Devices also has some things to say about the new availability of the Lumia 635. Rothschild said, "The Sprint, Boost and Virgin brands have great synergy with the value represented by the Lumia 635 -- a great, affordable smartphone that delivers uncompromised experiences to help people do more."
Stepping into the specs of the Lumia 635, consumers will realize that they're getting some pretty decent hardware for the price.
The Lumia 635 features a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 Gorilla Glass 3 ClearBlack screen. It packs a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 512 MB of RAM, and has a 5-megapixel rear camera.
It has 8 GB of internal storage and a microSD expansion slot. It comes with a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and lastly, a 1,830 mAh battery that provides up to 14 hours talk time.
Last but not least, consumers looking to pick up this phone for a good price will most likely be happy to buy it in cyan at Boost Mobile and in white at Virgin Mobile for $99.99.
