Microsoft HoloLens News, Rumors: New Wearable Device Coming Soon, First App Available on Windows Store

Microsoft seems to be preparing for an early release of the wearable computer glasses, HoloLens, as it released the first app supporting the device on the Windows Store on Monday.

The new app called "Microsoft IT Showcase,' is available for free now and it offers easy access to content detailing the manner in which IT professionals are utilizing Microsoft products in their work.

According to IB Times, "Microsft IT Showcase" is somewhat overwhelming considering the fact it is the first app on a new device ushering a new era of PC interaction. The Redmond, Washington-headquartered tech titan has already displayed how 'Minecraft' as well as other apps will appear on the virtual goggles. Nevertheless, till now there was very little news on when there would be any HoloLens-specific apps.

While it is expected that the HoloLens developer kit will be available in 2016, "Microsoft IT Showcase" indicates that some first-party apps may possibly get HoloLens support before then.

Strangely enough, the Web listing does not show the HoloLens screenshots, indicating that the store support may not be entirely complete yet. According to the report, the fact that "Microsoft IT Showcase" was released without any fanfare, and that it is a fairly unexciting app than some of the early HoloLens apps demonstrated, indicates that the launch may have been inadvertent.

However, some people are talking about another possibility. According to them, Microsoft planned to launch the first HoloLens app inconspicuously. For quite some time now, Microsoft has been promoting the "universal app" system as an essential part of Windows 10. Since all universal apps will run on HoloLens, it is likely that Microsoft thought that inviting attention to the first app with precise support for HoloLens might challenge the idea that the system will support every universal app right from its launch.
