Microsoft Hololens News, Rumors: New Smartwear is Microsoft's Answer to Google Glass?
Wearable tech has been the focus of many tech companies and providers as of late. One of the most well-known was definitely the Google Glass, but that device received some really mixed reviews.
However, Microsoft has decided to join the fray by announcing their release of the holographic smartwear device, Hololens. Hololens was launched in conjunction with the release of the new Microsoft 10 OS (which is a free upgrade), which Microsoft has made the user experience across all Microsoft devices seamless and smooth.
Imagine if you could project stunning 3D imagery onto real like 3D surfaces, and that any surface could become an interactive platform for your holographic projected images. Hololens is capable of incorporating a virtual world layered onto the real world, offering an experience unlike any other device.
The brainchild behind this creation is Alex Kipman, the man that brought to market the very popular Kinect motion camera. Alex is trying to move towards a predicted future where virtual reality and virtual augmentation are a common daily thing.
We're not talking about putting you into virtual worlds," HoloLens leader Alex Kipman said Wednesday during an event at Microsoft's headquarters here, "We're dreaming beyond virtual worlds, beyond screens, beyond pixels."
Microsoft did a showcase of the Hololens's capabilities from augmented reality design, to gaming on Minecraft and one of the most exciting, the ability to build and 3D print straight from the tool.
Currently no pricing is available, but one is expecting prices similar to that of the Oculus Rift and only developer kits are purchasable as of this moment.
It's clear Microsoft wants to start developing apps for their new product line as possible, and many eager eyes in the tech world are keeping a close eye.
It may not be the prettiest nor slimmest, but one has to remember that these will only shrink and become more useful over time.
