Microsoft Buys Startup App Acompli to Facilitate Mobile Cross-Platform Growth & Software Integration

Microsoft is becoming more and more open to Apple and Google mobile platforms as it's evident from their move to acquire the iPhone email startup app Acompli, which was founded by a Latin American firm.

According to Latin Post, the new CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella has always been in favor of cross-compatibility and since he joined Microsoft he opened up the tech giant's software offerings such as Office, allowing others to access them.

In order to reach the iPhone as well as Android users Nadella decided to acquire Acompli, an email app and startup. According to The Verge, an announcement in this regard was made on late Monday.

Acompli was founded by Puerto Rican-born technocrat named Javier Soltero. It is a mobile app for iOS and Android and combines Microsoft email services such as Exchange and Outlook with Microsoft cloud-based services such as Office 365 and OneDrive, to create a single app.

In addition to integrating Microsoft software offerings, Acompli also supports cloud integration as well as email from Google Drive, Gmail, iCloud, Dropbox, Yahoo, Hotmail and many others.

There is no doubt that Acompli impressed Nadella and Microsoft. Launched as late as in April 2014, this app impressed Rajesh Jha, Office 365 and Outlook vice-president, so much that he wrote: "We're excited about what's possible as we build on the app's success and bring it together with work currently in progress by the Outlook team. Our goal is to deliver fantastic cross-platform apps that support the variety of email services people use today and help them accomplish more."

According to Latin Post, though the details regarding the deal have yet to be disclosed, Soltero seems to be extremely delighted with Microsoft's move to acquire his app and their bid to integrate various software with it.
