Mick Fanning News: Surfer Survives a Shark Attack on Live TV
Three-time Surfing world champion Mick Fanning survives a shark attack unharmed and alive recently at the J-Bay Open competition in South Africa with two sharks attacking him. The 34-year-old surfer's dangerous ordeal was caught on live TV and a lot of people were quite impressed on how he handled the terrifying attack.
It is definitely uncommon for surfers to experience such frightening situations even though their sport requires them to always be in the water. The video, which is currently spreading like wildfire showed Fanning in the water swimming with his surfing board when suddenly, two sharks attacked him.
It was a fast scene and luckily, the safety personnel on jet skis were quick enough to recover the surfer before the worst thing happens. "Oh man, I'm trippin'," Fanning told a reporter for the World Surf League relieving the public saying, "I'm totally fine, I've got nothing wrong with me."
"I was just sitting there...and then I felt something grab, like get stuck in my leg rope and I just instantly just jumped away and they just kept coming at my board and I was just like kicking and screaming," he explained adding, "I just saw fins. I didn't see the teeth. I punched it in the back."
Indeed, Fanning proved to be an excellent surfer even showing that he can surpass such unanticipated matters like getting attacked by sharks. "This is the first time in professional surfing history...nobody ever experienced a situation like there, where a surfer is actually attacked by two sharks right when the final starts," World Surf League deputy commissioner Renato Hickel said.
Gratefully, all is well with everybody in the competition. "We are incredibly grateful that no one was seriously injured today," the WSL group said in a statement. "Mick's composure and quick acting in the face of a terrifying situation was nothing short of heroic and the rapid response of our Water Safety personnel was commendable-they are truly world class at what they do."
