Michael Schumacher Condition News: F1 Legend Recovering Slowly but Surely
Michael Schumacher, popular F1 racer, suffered a severe head injury skiing the French Alps in December 2013. He had been put into an induced coma for the first part of 2014, so that a medical treatment could be done painlessly.
He gained consciousness in June 2014 and was later taken to Gland, Switzerland for further rehabilitation. Back then, Schumacher was confined to a wheelchair. He still remained mute and had memory problems according to Philippe Streiff, fellow F1 driver.
It has been months since remarkable progress has been reported when the famous driver was able to hear the familiar voices of his family and random sounds. According to the Italian Newspaper, Corriere dela Serra, Schumacher shed tears when the sense of sound had returned to him. Little information has been published up until recently.
The editor of Autospirit, Alberto Sabbatini, defended the newspaper for lack of evidence for the emotional report saying that the information had come from a very reliable source,"those who know and have seen him [Schumacher] recently and are aware of his clinical status."
The family has employed a team of experts to help him rehabilitate which costs £100,000 per month. According to the French doctor who treated Schumacher in a hospital in Grenoble, possible recovery would be within three years. Dr. Jean Francois-Payen visited Switzerland for the routine check-up back in December 2014.
Sabine Kehm has been grateful for the sympathetic words from many fans all over the world for 'Schumi'. When she was interviewed by the local press, the manager had mentioned that his recovery would be 'long and difficult' before he could get back to normal.
For those that may not know, Michael and his son, Mick, were skiing down between the beginner and intermediate piste at first. Later on, he had gone on his own and was reported to have went beyond the tracks where he lost balance after getting stuck on a rock and was later found unconscious 34 feet away on another rock.
An air ambulance was able to airlift him within minutes, and he was taken to Moutiers Hospital and was eventually transferred to CHU Grenoble.
