'Metal Gear Solid V' News: Kojima Reveals Upcoming Game is the Final Title in the Series
The release of 'Metal Gear Solid 5' is slated to bevery bittersweet according to developer Hideo Kojima's recent statement.
The series' creator went on record in an interview with IGNÂ stating that this will be the last chapter in the Metal Gear series, and that this game was the missing link. He states:
"I always say this will be my last Metal Gear, but the games in the series that I've personally designed and produced--Metal Gear on MSX, MG2, MGS1, 2, 3, 4, Peace Walker, and now MGSV--are what constitute a single Metal Gear Saga. With MGSV, I'm finally closing the loop on that saga."
'Metal Gear Solid 5' will essentially serve as the finale in the Big Boss prequel, so that confirms the end of the character Solid Snake's lineage in the previous game.
He continues:
"In that sense, this will be the final Metal Gear Solid. Even if the Metal Gear franchise continues, this is the last 'Metal Gear.'"
This leaves the door open for Metal Gear spin-offs and reboots.
"Kojima Productions has worked on series spin-offs such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (developed by Platinum Games) as well as Metal Gear Solid Touch for iPhone. It has also partnered with external studios for reboots, such as the GameCube title Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (developed by Silicon Knights) and the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (developed by several studios across a range of platforms)," writes Gamespot.
'Metal Gear Solid 5' will release for Playstation 4 and Xbox One on September 1st.
