Memphis Grizzlies NBA 2015 News, Rumors: Tony Allen Questionable for Game 5
The Memphis Grizzlies were the first team in the league to give the Golden State Warriors some real adversity this season when they went up 2-1 in the series. The Warriors, and newly-minted league MVP Steph Curry responded like the best team in the league in Game 4, but apart from losing the series lead, the Grizzlies may have suffered a bigger loss when Tony Allen hurt his left hamstring.
Coming from multiple reports, the defensive ace, who played a huge part in stifling the Splash Brothers in the first three games, has been listed as questionable for Wednesday night's Game 5. The "Grind Father" was limited to just 16 minutes in the
Grizzlies' 101-84 Game 4 loss where he looked to have hurt his hamstring during the third period. In that game, Allen finished below his series averages with four points and five rebounds. In the matchup against the Warriors, he is averaging 9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Everyone knows, though, that those aren't what Memphis will miss from him. Klay Thompson has not had a good shooting series, and has not really had a particularly good game the entire second round. According to NBA.com, Curry is shooting much worse from the field, and especially from deep, when Allen is on the floor.
Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley, who entered the playoffs with plantar fasciitis issues before getting hit in the face, which resulted in facial surgery, had evident trouble dealing with the bigger Thompson's defense in Game 4. Should Allen miss Game 5, he is expected to spend significant time trying to check Curry.
Game 5 between the Grizzlies and the Warriors is scheduled Wednesday, May 13. Tipp-off at the Oracle Arena in Oakland is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
