Melissa Rivers News: New Joan Rivers Bakery Opened as Tribute to Late Comedian

Late comedienne Joan Rivers' daughter and grandson Melissa Rivers and son Cooper are taking over all of Joan's past commitments and passion including supporting a charity that is dear to Joan's heart.

Melissa and her son Cooper just recently opened a bakery called: 'The Joan Rivers Bakery' at the new Michael Kors building in New York City in support of the God's Love We Deliver charity that Joan have supported for years.

The charity was said to be for aiding the improvement of the health of men, women and children who are unfortunately living with a variety of serious illnesses. Melissa expressed her joy in taking part in the charity by opening up a bakery.

"It's so exciting," Melissa told E! News during the event. "I remember when my mother first got involved and he's [Cooper's] now third generation being in love with this charity...it's phenomenal."

It is indeed heart-warming for a daughter to do all those to honor her mother even after she already passed away. Melissa is definitely thrilled to know that Joan would be glad if she saw it. "She'd be beyond thrilled. This charity was so important to her. I think she would be embarrassed by it-with all the attention, but it's the bakery, so she'd be very happy because, you know, it was hard for her to ever pass up a cookie," Melissa continued.

The bakery was finally opened, just last Tuesday, and Melissa happily reports that the process happened very smoothly. "It really came together right after she passed," she said of the bakery adding, "The group here has been so supportive and so amazing and so lovely to us for the past nine months...it's just really special."

Melissa also shared how important it is for her to do this since Joan really did impart it to her when she was alive. "It was a part of the tradition of our Thanksgivings to deliver and I remember the first party at our house she had for them to raise money for the original building," she recalled. "So to be here at the opening of the second building is pretty phenomenal."
