The second-largest jackpot payout in the Mega Millions history is currently set for a drawing on Friday. The $400 million dollar jackpot payout is the fifth highest lottery prize in history and could move up even further this evening depending on how many lottery tickets were sold.
Chuck Baumann, the Oregon state lottery spokesperson, said, "When you start getting into these nine-digit jackpots, people start taking notice. As a rule, things will really take off the day of the drawing."
The largest Mega Millions jackpot payout in history took place in March 2012 when three ticket winners split the winnings.
Right now, the odds of winning with one Mega Millions ticket are 1 in 259 million, so don't get your hopes up!
The total payout from the Mega Millions lottery will be around $216 million after taxes if you decide to take the lump sum. The winning numbers from the recent drawing were 5, 12, 22, 41, 65, and 13, but no one stepped forward to claim the prize.
The current Mega Millions lottery jackpot has been growing for over two months. Nobody has stepped forward to claim the massive jackpot prize.
Some states have elected to keep the lottery out of their jurisdictional borders, a move that some critics say is fiscally irresponsible due to the large amount of money that the lottery brings state governments. Do you think the lottery is a smart move by state governments? Do you think the lottery helps lower taxes in states that allow it?
