'MechWarrior 5' Release Date News: ‘Mercenaries’ Trailer Teased, Launch Details Revealed

The "MechWarrior 5" release date was announced, along with the trailer tease for "Mercenaries," at the MechCon 2016 in Vancouver, Canada recently. The bad news, however, is that fans still have to wait two years to get their hands on the game.

Although "Mercenaries" is related to the "MechWarrior Online, it's also a standalone game, which means that you can play the former without even knowing the details of the latter.

In order to appease fans waiting on the "MechWarriors 5" release date, a trailer for "Mercenaries" was also teased at the MechCon.

Even with the "MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries" trailer tease, don't expect that what you see in the clip will be similar to the final outcome. Piranha Games president Russ Bullock told PCGamer that there are a lot of elements and components that comprise the game, and it's still being developed even at the time of the interview.

"One thing we've learned over is just to be cautious with expectations with our playerbase," Bullock explained. "We want to make sure we're really certain about things before they go out."

In "Mercenaries," you play a novice pilot who will have to navigate himself through the politics among the warring factions while also honing his skills in the process.

With the "Mercenaries" trailer, however, Polygon said that development for "MechWarrior Online," along with the multiplayer game, will continue. "Mercenaries," is being developed using Unreal4 engine so expect it to offer 4K support.

Watch out for more "MechWarrior 5" release date, particularly on the exact launch of "Mercenaries," which we will report as soon as any new information comes along.
