'Maze Runner 2' Release Date News: 'Scorch Trials' Premieres September 18, 2015

It has been confirmed that the James Dashner adapted novel 'Maze Runner' has got a sequel in the works and will appear as soon as September of this year.

The sequel has been titled 'Maze Runner: Scorch Trials', and will be based on Dashner's second entry within his series.

This continuation can be attributed to the success of the first film with it raking in 32.5 million at the North American box office in its opening weekend.

"The movie follows O'Brien's character as he wakes up with no memory inside the center of a giant maze, an area known as The Glade, surrounded by other teen boys who likewise can't remember anything. Threatening them all are vicious creatures known as Grievers. The boys look for a way out of the maze, but it isn't until a mysterious girl arrives that they have a fighting chance," The Hollywood Reporter.

The sequel is slated to release on September 18th, 2015, which would make it almost exactly one year out from the original. Production for the movie has been said to have already finished.

Director Wes Ball has been confirmed to be directing the project again, along with Dylan O' Brien as lead, and much more familiar cast.

A newcomer, Giancarlo Esposito has also been cast in a main role.

"Esposito will play Jorge, a leader of a group of survivors known as the Cranks that encounter the group of teens led by O'Brien. The character also appears in the third book of Maze Runner trilogy, The Death Cure," writes The Hollywood Reporter.

He's most closely identified with his performance as the titular villain, Gus Fring, in 'Breaking Bad'.
