Mayweather vs Pacquiao Fight 2015 News, Rumors: Date Set for May 2, 2015 But Might Not Happen
For years now, the public has demanded a fight for the decade, a mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. While this bout has been snowballing hype and popularity, it unfortunately does not seem to be moving forward.
In 2009, the two almost made an agreement about a fight, but a drug testing incident prevented the match from becoming official. At the time, champion Floyd Mayweather offered Pacquiao $40 million to agree to the fight because he knew how much the fight would earn. Now he has rescinded the offer because Pacquiao has lost twice since then, but Manny is still eager for this deal to be made.
While Mayweather had resisted responding to Pacquiao's statements, Pacquiao continually prodded his rival in public, hoping to get his shot at the boxing champion.
In an exciting turn of events, Mayweather has finally reacted to Pacquiao's jabs and suggested May 2nd for the fight date. "We want the fight. We're ready," Mayweather said to Showtime.
Although the professional boxers finally seem to be in agreement, that fight date will most likely be changed. Apparently, May 2nd is already decided upon as the HBO pay-per-view match between Miguel Cotto and former titleholder Canelo Alvarez.
Additionally, ever since the undefeated boxer signed his contract with Showtime, he has only fought two fights each year. Now, the 37-year-old plans to retire once the two fights left on his contract are complete, and his next fight are likely be on or around May 2nd against a different boxer.
On that note, Bob Arum, the Top Rank promoter, believes that Mayweather is sincere in his proposal. However, if the fight were to occur, it would not happen on the date that Mayweather suggested publicly.
