Floyd Mayweather News: Boxer Named Fighter of the Year by Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame

The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame has named Floyd Mayweather Jr. Nevada Fighter of the Year for the third straight year, BoxingNews24.com reports.

As noted by NationBoxing.com, the announcement was made by the NVBHOF founder and CEO, Rich Marotta, who recognized Mayweather for wins against Manny Pacquiao and Marcos Maidana.

After the winning the ward last year, Mayweather defeated Maidana in their rematch last September. He then dominated Pacquiao in their highly anticipated matchup this past May. The fight broke the PPV record with 4.4 million views, and gave Mayweather over $200 million for his troubles.

He now sits on his 48-0 record and has announced his intentions to fight on Sep. 12. While an opponent has yet to be officially named, it is widely believed that Mayweather's next fight will be against former welterweight champion Andre Berto, who is 30-3, but has just gone 3-3 in his last six fights.

"I appreciate the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame for selecting me as figter of the year once again," Mayweather said. My uncle Roger Mayweather is also being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He was a great fighter, and a fantastic trainer who doesn't always receive the credit he deserves. It's nice for him to be recognized by the NVBHOF for his role in boxing for so many years."

The annual NVBHOF induction gala will be held on Aug. 8 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. A number of big boxing names are expected to attend, with the list of those already confirming their attendance including Lennox Lewis, "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, Felix Trinidad, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.

As noted by BoxingNes24.com, Marotta also announced that the NVBHOF would be honoring Layla McCarter as its women's Fighter of the Year, while Jarred Santos of the University of Nevada would be named its Amateur Fighter of the Year.
