Max Lucado Says 'People Assume Their Prayers Are Not Heard Because They Didn’t Pray Correctly'

Oak Hills Church Minister and author Max Lucado recently released his latest book, titled 'Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe'; a fiction book which focuses on a lot of Christian topics, including prayer.

The story focuses on Chelsea Chambers, who tries to make it on her own after her public split with her NFL superstar husband. She begins working at an old-fashioned coffee shop called Higher Grounds Cafe. Then one day, a stranger walks in at the coffee shop followed by a curiouser string of events, which leads customers after customers flocking to the cafe, looking for answers to life's biggest questions. Soon more and more people begin to rely on the cafe not just for the cappuccino or Chelsea's cupcakes, but for answers to what could be their prayers.

Lucado clarifies that many Christians struggle when it comes to prayer because they don't see themselves capable enough to have "answered prayers."

"That's one of the most common struggles that people have. They assume that their prayers are not heard because they didn't pray correctly," Lucado tells The Christian Post.

Lucado also pointed out that some Christian leaders intimidate believers by giving them the feeling they need to be in a certain place or passion in order for their prayers to be heard.

"It's easy to draw the conclusion that prayer is a privilege for the uniquely skilled or the very pious people when really, in the Bible, the power of prayer is not in the one who says it, but in the one who hears it. Prayer is strong because God is strong. Prayer works because God works," Lucas said.

Lucado believes that prayer must be an honest conversation with God and not more of repetitive act.

"I don't pray for long periods of time"¦my prayers are relatively brief. The times I really feel blessed through prayer is when my prayers are sincere - when I kind of think through what I'm going through, or I'm going through a hard time and I use that prayer to talk to God about everything," he said.
