Matthew West's 'Hello, My Name Is...The Acoustic Tour' Testimonies 'Really Impacted and Changed' His Life, 'God is at Work' in Hopeless Situations (INTERVIEW 2)

Christian contemporary artists Matthew West spoke with BreatheCast about his current "Hello, My Name Is...The Acoustic Tour." The four-time Grammy nominated singer/songwriter opened up about staying humble in the midst of all his success, his songs, and how hope can come from the most hopeless situations at times.

West is hitting the road today, March 17, for the first date of his new acoustic tour. His hit singles "Forgiveness" and "Hello My Name Is" (which landed at a record breaking No. 1 on the National Christian radio chart for 17 weeks straight) are both songs West wrote from testimonies he received from fans. West explained his desire for this acoustic tour is to really delve in greater detail into the powerful testimonies behind his songs which are largely inspired by stories of tragedy that find redemption.

"There are so many hurting people in the world and so many bad things going on that people do need hope," West said. He aspires his acoustic tour would serve as a ministry tool to encourage those hurting and in need of hope.

He is modeling the tour after the one-man show of legendary country music singer Garth Brooks. West promises that the acoustic tour will not have the same restraints that a live concert has with time. He will feature videos of the people whose true-life stories inspired his songs.

"I've had the distinct honor and privilege of reading thousands of true stories that brave men, women, teenagers, and kids have chosen to write to me," he said. Adding, "these are the stories that have inspired the songs that I've written, but they've done more then that they've really impacted and changed my life, they've change the way I view the world."

When discussing hope in a hopeless time, West said these evidences of hope come from the most "broken parts" of people lives.

"On the surface I could be tempted to think there's no hope" he stated, but he has been given a greater revelation. "I feel like God has given me new eyes to see inside of that seemingly hopeless situation and realize that God is at work and sometimes he is at work in different stages."

West has had a very successful career and his countless experiences on the road and interactions with his fans have served as proof to his belief. "I've seen it with my own eyes and I see it now as we go out and tell those stories of brokenness. The world sees how God has healed us and He does a continual healing work," he said.

"That to me is the message of hope that rings loud and clear in my ears," he continued. "As we tell our stories, God's healing work continues to move throughout the country."

Although West has a booming career, and has been No. 1 on Christian AC charts. He has been nominated and won prestigious awards along with writing for some of music's biggest names, he says he is always aiming for more.

"I'm so driven, it's never enough for me," he said. "Whenever I complete one mile stone I feel like I still haven't done enough."

Although ambition can be a great thing, West said it also has its down side. "I winded up not even being able to enjoy the moment," he confessed. "I always have to ask the Lord to help me to take a step back."

When asked how he keeps humble throughout all of his accomplishments he immediately had an answer.

"I have a wife and two children that do a good job at keeping me humble at all times." Along with his supportive spouse, West's two young daughters were also on the road with him as he wrapped up the "Hits Deep Tour," with artist such as TobyMac and Mandisa.

Before West concluded the interview, he shared one last story as to how his family helps keep him humble. He described how great it feels to perform for thousands of people in arenas throughout the country. He shared that on one particular night while on the road with his family, West and his daughter were snuggled together getting ready for bed when his daughter decided to give him some advice.

She turned to him and said,"Dad you told a joke tonight during your show, it wasn't funny, don't tell that joke again." "What do you mean?" he responded. She honestly replied, "Nobody around me was laughing."
