Marvel's 'Spider Man' News, Rumors: Miles Morales to Take the Spotlight for MCU?

Marvel's rebooted version of the Spider-Man comic series comes to televisions this fall.

The new series, which is written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by artist Sara Pichelli, will feature Miles Morales, who is a half black, half Latino teen, as Spider Man.

Morales has previously appeared as a version of Spider-Man in Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man series 2011.

However when the limited comic series, Secret Wars, comes to a close this summer, Morales will become the official Spider-Man on the page.

Bendis wanted fans to know that Morales had been chosen to be the main superhero, and not just an alternate reality.

"Our message has to be it's not Spider-Man with an asterisk," said Bendis in a statement made to the Daily News. "It's the real Spider Man for kids of color, for adults of color, and everybody else.

This announcement comes just a few days after a legal licensing agreement between Sony pictures Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment, was leaked.

Marvel and Sony declined to comment on the contract, which has several demands about Spider Man, stating that one of his "core elements", is that he is a "heterosexual, Caucasian, Male".

Last year, Bendis told Vulture magazine that his plans for Spider Man include Morales appearing as the character on the big screen one day.

Andrew Garfield also supported this notion, as evidenced by his statement is news.

"Miles Morales was a huge moment in this character's comic book life, said Garfield to Comic Book Resources. "And I do believe that we can do that."
