Marvel's New 'Spider Man' News: Tom Holland Cast as New MCU Spider-Man

Marvel and Sony have found the actor that will play Peter Parker in their new Spider-Man feature. Tom Holland, the actor from The Impossible, is set to play the web slinging superhero in the next Spider-Man franchise. Jon Watts, who helmed Cop Car, will direct the film.

Tom Rothman, the Chairman of Sony Picture Motion Pictures Group, spoke on the studio's choice to cast Holland in the films.

"I've worked with a number of up and coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent," said Rothman."For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start."

The actor is expected to make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, in order to get his proper introduction into the Marvel film universe.

His first in a series of stand alone films will debut on July 28th, 2017.

Sony announced their new partnership with Marvel studios in February, which allowed for the popular superhero to enter the Marvel universe.

Amy Pascal, the former co chairman of Sony, is producing with Kevin Feige.

The search for the actor who could fill the lead role in the series has been long and interesting, indeed.

Executive met with both actors and directors at the same time to find the perfect fit.

Rumors had been spreading for months about what direction the new franchise would be going in and whether the studio would be casting an unknown actor or using a more established name.
