Marvel Movie Release Dates 2016: What Lies Ahead In The Big, Small Screen

With the expansion of Marvel's Cinematic Universe in both the big screen and the small screen with its array of characters, its line-up for 2016 has been revealed.

For the big screen, the comic book giant is set to follow-up the events in Joss Whedon's blockbuster film "Avengers: Age of Ultron" with Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's forthcoming "Captain America: Civil War," which is set to feature a major clash between the separate factions of Captain America and Iron Man following the release of the Sokovian Accords.

According to International Business Times, many view the Russos' "Captain America: Civil War" as the "springboard" for Jon Watts' "Spider-Man" and Ryan Coogler's "Black Panther," with "The Impossible" actor Tom Holland and "42" actor Chadwick Boseman playing the roles, respectively.

Marvel is also set to open its audience's eyes in the realm of sorcery in Scott Derrickson's "Doctor Strange." The film chronicles the origins of Stephen Strange, a neurosurgeon who lost his fine motor skills after an accident. He learns the mystic arts from the Ancient One and becomes a superhero to combat evil.

In the small screen, Marvel and Netflix have emerged to be victorious with their television series "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones." According to previous reports, the companies are set to launch two more superhero series - "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" - and set them up before they appear altogether in "The Defenders."

"Jessica Jones" has just launched in November, so a season 2 is unlikely. Its spin-off series "Luke Cage" is assumed to be aired on January 2016 while "Daredevil" is set to return in 2016 and will see the titular hero fight The Punisher.

According to Heroic Hollywood, the second half of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3 is set to return on ABC on Mar. 18, 2016 while its spin-off series, Hayley Atwell is heading to Los Angeles in "Agent Carter," which premieres on Jan. 19, 2016.

Disney XD will see the return of "Avengers Assemble," along with "Ultimate Spider-Man." The latter is in its season 4, entitled "The Sinister Six." Both shows are assumed to be released before the end of 2016.
