Mario Kart DLC Pack Characters Feature Link From Legend of Zelda
Doubts about non-Mario franchise characters becoming a part of 'Mario Kart 8' have become a things of the past, as Nintendo recently implemented some new characters in their latest kart racing game.
Nintendo's other franchises, such as 'Legend of Zelda', 'F-Zero', and 'Animal Crossing', are included in the first downloadable content packs of the kart racing game. This content will come in the form of two DLC packs, which will include three new characters, four new vehicles and eight courses.
The first DLC for 'Mario Kart 8' is called 'The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8', and it is the first of the two-pack DLC sets for the game. The second one will be released in May of next year, but can be purchased for cheaper in a bundle. Link from 'The Legend of Zelda' is the first non-Mario character that has been introduced in the 'Mario Kart' universe.
He is a heavy character in the game, and comes with all voice cues, and uses his sword and a couple of Triforce tricks, according to Master Herald. The vehicles introduced are the Tanooki Kart, B Dasher and the Master Cycle (a Zelda-themed vehicle). The Master Cycle was inspired by Link's horse, Espona.
An interview with 'Mario Kart 8' director Kosuke Yabuki regarding the game's recent release was posted on Gamespot. Since Link is in the game now, the video gaming website asked, if gamers can eventually expect to see another Mario kart game that has various Nintendo characters in it.
"For now, this DLC is unique and special in the way it transcends the boundaries of the Mario Kart franchise," Yabuki answered, "I hope that people around the world enjoy it."
'Mario Kart 8' received 4.5 stars out of 5, based on 82 critics of Metacritic. Destructoid gave a verdict of 9/10, stating that the game is a hallmark of excellence. Eurogamer also gave the first pack of the DLC expansion of 'Mario Kart 8' a rating of 9 out of ten.
