Marina Abramovic & Jay Z Feud News: A Mere Miscommunication Sparked Controversy
A serious miscommunication apparently happened with artist Marina Abramovic and singer Jay Z who have been in the headlines for Abramovic's statements in her interview with Spike claiming that Jay Z simply used her art for his 'Picasso Baby' performance recently.
Abramovic at first released her statement saying how disappointed she was of the rapper for not following her condition of helping her institute after her consent to be part of Jay-Z's performance for his music video which was shown on HBO last August 2013.
"The day before, he came to my office and I gave him an entire PowerPoint presentation and said, 'Okay, you can help me, because I really need help to build this thing," Abramovic told the art magazine Spike in an interview published earlier this week. "Then he just completely used me. And that wasn't fair. This is very different from Lady Gaga, for example, who has done great work for me. Just by having 45 million followers, she brought all these young kids into my public," she added.
After that, with Jay-Z's party still unresponsive, Abramovic then released another statement stating the mistake she incurred in thinking that Jay-Z did not help her with her institute called the Marina Abramovic Institute. "Marina Abramovic was not informed of Shawn 'Jay Z' Carter's donation from two years ago," the statement said.
"We are sincerely sorry to both Marina Abramovic and Shawn 'Jay Z' Carter for this, and since then we have taken to appropriate actions to reconcile this matter," the statement continued.
Apparently, all is now well with the two artists who clearly haven't communicated well about their matter. Now Abramavic apparently cannot say that it was a one-way transaction after finding out that Jay-Z indeed donated to her institute.
"And in the end it was only a one-way transaction," she said. "I will never do it again, that I can say. Never. I was really naive in this kind of world. It was really new to me, and I had no idea that this would happen. It's so cruel, it's incredible. I will stay away from it for sure," Abramavic previously told Spike Magazine.
