Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather PPV Prices, News: HD Package at Record Breaking $99, SD at $89
The richest fight in boxing history is just a month away now, and while Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are in the thick of training for the mega fight, networks and TV distributors are also in the crucial stretch of hammering out a deal.
HBO and Showtime, representing Pacquiao and Mayweather, respectively, are expected to come to an agreement with major pay TV distributors, with the pay-per-view bout expected to cost fans $99, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The report states that under the terms being discussed, the $99 will be a high-definition feed, while standard definition feeds will cost $89 a buy. The numbers are expectedly the highest in boxing history, with the previous high set at $74.95 for high-definition, and $64.95 for standard.
Meanwhile, the news out of the Pacquiao camp still centers on the Filipino's troublesome calves. Trainer Freddie Roach and strength and conditioning coach Justin Fortune recently decided to swipe uphill runs off the eight-division champion's schedule, and focus instead on dynamic track work.
Pacquiao has also resorted to a cream worth $1,800 a tube to try and alleviate the cramping that has bothered the fighter for years. Top Rank Chief recently told BoxingScene that the cream has produced positive results, calming fans' fears that Pacquiao will not be on top form for the massive showdown with Mayweather.
"The cream, which costs $1,800, was developed by people who are experts who really know. It is used extensively on basketball players and baseball pitchers," Arum was quoted saying.
Roach's assistant coach Marvin Somodio was also quoted in the report saying that Pacquiao looked "fine" in training coming off a weekend of rest.
"I would like him to get up and move around at least, get out the stiffness from the work we have been doing. He is not going to run, but we will make up for it with the work we do later. I make it hard for him but he needs to suck it up. Fighting Mayweather is not easy, either. There are always consequences," Fortune said after Pacquiao skipped his scheduled run a few days ago.
