Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather News: Sports Book Sets Over/Under for PPV at 3.15 Million

The past month has seen a deluge of reports about the possibility of the long awaited fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. But while talks between both camps continue to finally get a deal done, speculation on just how much the fight will be received has increasingly grown.

As Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports! reports, Bovada, an online sports book, has slated the over/under on sales for the mega-fight at a record breaking 3.15 million.

Presently, the most sales for a fight came from the 2007 match between Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya held at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, which generated sales of 2.5 million.

The figure set by Bovada would shatter that astronomic number by 650,000.

The over/under for the potential Pacquiao-Mayweather fight sales opened at minus-110, but the since then, Yahoo Sports! reports that the line has moved and under is the current favor.

Currently, the under is minus-160, and over is plus-120; meaning if you believe that total PPV sales will be under 3.15 million, you need to bet $1.60 for every $1 you want to win.

Long-time fight pundit, Iole, estimates that if a fight is arranged for May 2, it would generate 3.25 million, citing the intense interest in a fight that has so far taken over five years to realize.

The 2013 bout between Mayweather and Saúl Alvarez set the record for most pay-per-view revenue, selling 2.2 million buys, which translated to $150 million in PPV sales because of its higher price.

The same fight likewise holds the record for the largest gate in boxing history at $20 million. There have been talks of scaling the MGM Grand Garden for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in order to produce a $40 million gate, per Yahoo Sports!.

In those talks, the cheapest seats would cost $1,000, while seats at the floor would go for $5,000.
