Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight News: Separate Fan Rallies Held for Both Boxers
Three days before, perhaps, the most highly anticipated fight in boxing history, and certainly the richest one, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao attended separate fan rallies, which would be the only time most people would get to see the two fighters in person owing to the astronomical ticket prices at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Team Pacquiao chose to bypass the "grand arrival" at the MGM Grand, and opted instead to hold a smaller fan rally at the Mandalay Bay convention center. The rally, which had a more Filipino fiesta feel with singing performances and dance-offs, was used by the Filipino icon to calm the nerves of his fans.
"Don't get nervous on Saturday. I'm the one who is gonna fight in the ring, so relax!," Pacquiao said to a roaring crowd, "I know I'm going to win the fight in the ring, so relax."
A much larger crowd at the MGM Grand greeted Mayweather, who considers Las Vegas his home city. Led by a marching band from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mayweather walked in to face thousands of Money Team supporters.
"Everyone that's in this arena is The Money Team," the king of Las Vegas declared to the audience.
Despite Pacquiao's confidence, he will come into Saturday's mega bout a 2-1 underdog for a fight that is expected to earn him north of $100 million.
"Five years ago this was a $50 million fight for me, and $20 for him," said Mayweather who is projected to get close to $200 million for the fight.
Mayweather has surprisingly been subdued during the build up to the fight. He infamously pulled out all the stops in trash talking his past opponents that included Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Marcos Maidana.
"I'm happy just to be a part of this event, the biggest fight in sports history," the undefeated fighter said.
