Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight News, Latest Rumors: Bout Confirmed for 2015?
Manny Pacquiao is itching to duke it out with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and continues to publicly talk about the fight that he and most of the sports world want to see come into fruition. ESPN reports that hype for the legendary welterweight showdown has never been more intense.
Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) turned 36 last month and he has been vocal in recent months about his desire to confirm what would easily be the most expensive fight in boxing history. It seems he tweeted Mayweather, who will turn 38 in February, and said that the time had arrived for the two all-time greats to see who is greater. Incidentally, both are in the twilight of their careers.
Pacquiao had, apparently tweeted last month to Mayweather: "Don't be a boxing humbug. Let's give the fans the fight they want. They have waited long enough."
The fight would be loaded with money because CBS/Showtime has Mayweather under contract, and broadcaster Time Warner/HBO has Pacquiao under contract - when the fight happens, the two sponsors could join hands and go in for a joint pay-per-view broadcast.
It seems the Mayweather side has indicated in an interview last month that he really wanted the fight and he wanted it to happen on May 2. While no date has yet been confirmed, some sources are speculating that a fight can happen in 2015
Such an arrangement of a pay-per-view broadcast would not be something new because earlier, in 2002 they had done just that. Not long ago, another highly-anticipated fight between HBO's then-heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and Showtime's Mike Tyson sparked mass interest.
On that note, the two of them were also nearing the end of their careers, so the bout ultimately became the highest-grossing fight in boxing history of the time.
