Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight News: One Month Deadline Ultimatum
The unending boxing saga of the potential mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. continues with the Filipino fighter expressing that he wants Mayweather to confirm a May fight date by the end of the month.
"We have to know soon because if they will not fight, we can move on and choose another opponent. We have a deadline, this month," Pacquiao told the Los Angeles Times, while promoting his new documentary titled "Manny."
This development comes less than a week after Top Rank chief Bob Arum was quoted by Yahoo Sports saying, "I'm not going to put a deadline there. I'm just going to hope that everybody does the right thing and we get this concluded."
That was in connection with a Yahoo Sports report that the Filipino boxing icon's camp has agreed to a 60/40 split that favors Mayweather, which is widely expected to smash all box-office and television revenue records.
An ESPN report also stated that the eight-division champion has agreed to other surrounding issues like what gloves to be used, who enters the ring first, and the formerly contentious issue of a drug testing protocol.
The idea of the superfight, which the world has thirsted for since 2009, regained steam last December when Mayweather proposed the May 2 date.
And while Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza told the Associated Press earlier this month that Mayweather wants the fight with the Filipino boxing icon more than ever, the current pound for pound best boxer in the world has been tight-lipped since.
Pacquiao, who has ran off three straight wins after back-to-back losses to Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez, which seemingly killed a potential fight with Mayweather, sports a 57-5-2 record with 38 knockouts.
For those that may not know, Mayweather is undefeated in 47 fights, with 26 coming by way of knockout.
