Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight Latest: Legendary Bout Gains Traction

Soon after Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum told Yahoo Sports! that Manny Pacquiao's camp has given the nod to all terms laid out for the proposed May 2 fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., Showtime executive Stephen Espinoza told the Associated Press that Mayweather wants the fight with the Filipino boxing icon more than ever.

Arum said Tuesday that the only thing standing in the way of the long anticipated bout was the approval of the pound for pound king, and while Mayweather has been tight-lipped since word of potentially biggest boxing payday in history regained traction, Espinoza said that the champion's determination to fight Pacquiao has not wavered.

This marks some welcome optimism for a fight the whole world has been clamoring for since 2009 after Pacquiao ran off 11 straight wins against some of the biggest names in boxing.

Yahoo Sports! earlier reported that both camps have agreed to a May 2 bout, along with a 60/40 split favoring Mayweather. The potential richest fight in boxing history has Mayweather potentially cashing in astronomic numbers in the range of $120 million.

"I want to get some movement here, with bringing Mayweather to the table so we can go out and get everything signed and get the networks together and get the thing finished," Arum was quoted by Yahoo Sports!.

Espinoza, for his part, told the Associated Press, "We're making meaningful progress, but if we were running a race, we would still have a ways to go. Everyone is trying to get to the finish line as soon as possible."

Sources have said that the peg for the fight would be something similar to the arrangement made for the 2002 Tyson-Lewis fight, suggesting that the friction between Showtime and HBO would play no part in hindering the fight.

"I'm not going to put a deadline on there. I'm just going to hope that everybody does the right thing and we get this concluded. It would be really sad if we went through this stuff again like we did before," Arum said.
