Manny Pacquiao News, Rumors: Legendary Filipino Boxer to Be Prosecuted for Perjury?
In a questionnaire given to the boxers before the fight, Manny Pacquiao responded to a question about whether he has ever suffered any shoulder injuries with "No."
However, after the fight took place between himself and Floyd Mayweather, his team complained that he had a shoulder injury which was preventing him from fighting properly.
In addition to this, it was confirmed on Monday that he would be undergoing surgery soon for a damaged rotator cuff.
Now, according to reports in the United States, the fact that Pacquiao failed to disclose his injury has caused the authorities in the state of Nevada to launch an investigation.
By signing the document presented to him, after answering "No" to the question about shoulder injuries, both the boxer and his advisor, Michael Koncz, swore under penalty of perjury that the information was correct to the best of their knowledge.
In a statement to the Daily News on Monday, Cisco Aguilar, the Nevada Athletic Commissioner chairman said that disclosure and honesty are very important for the state.
"The commission at some point will have to discuss [Pacquiao's medical questionnaire]." stated Aguilar.
He also said that he would have to go through the process with Nevada Attorney General, Adam Laxalt, and that the document is signed under penalty of perjury. If the boxer is deemed guilty of perjury, she could be facing up to four years in prison and no less than one year.
In addition to this, he will have to pay as much as a $5,000 fine. He can also be banned from fighting or fined by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
