Manny Pacquiao News: Championship Boxer Responds to Arum’s Criticisms

Following Top Rank head Bob Arum's public criticism of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao for missing a doctor's appointment to treat his injured shoulder, the eight-division world champion downplayed the sharp words and said he was carrying out his own rehabilitation, as reported by the AFP.

"I respect Bob Arum. He's just like a father to me. I believe he's just voicing out his concern (for) me and I appreciate it. I don't take it negatively," Pacquaio said in a statement.

"But he has nothing to worry about (regarding) my injury. I'm doing the rehab myself. I'm recovering faster than expected."

Last weekend, Arum voiced out his displeasure at the Filipino, while also saying that he had no idea when "Pacman" might return to the ring.

"As far as I'm concerned, he's not an active fighter," Arum said after watching Cesar Cuenca of Argentina beat Ik Yang of China for the IBF junior welterweight title in Macau. Arum also said that Pacquiao had "not been acting very professionally."

Pacquiao suffered a torn right shoulder rotator cuff while preparing for his May 2 fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., and injury that was aggravated during the fight.

According to Arum, Pacquiao cancelled a scheduled check-up with surgeon Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles on July 4.

"When you get an operation like that, you've got to get into rehab, You've got to get the doctor to look at it and to guide you as to the kind of rehab that you've got to do," Arum told the AFP.

As noted by the report, Pacquiao traveled to Indonesia after missing the doctor's appointment for a highly publicized trip to film a television advertisement as well as to visit a Filipina on death row who is seeking clemency.

Pacquaio is an elected Congressman and has political ambitions that reach far beyond his boxing career.
