Manchester United News: Footballer Angel Di Maria Completes PSG Transfer
Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria finally completed his transfer to French club Paris St-Germain. As reported by ESPN FC, The Argentine signed a four-year contract with PSG, which also included a transfer fee of £44 million. Both United and PSG confirmed the deal on Thursday.
Di Maria is on the move again after Manchester United paid a British record £59.7 million to acquire him from Real Madrid last year. Apart from losing the talented winger, the English club also lost almost £16million in transfer fees.
ESPN FC reports that he has passed a medical in Doha, Qatar, which officially ended his one-year career at Old Trafford.
"I am very proud and I can't wait to wear the colors of Paris St-Germain," he said.
According to a PSG release, Di Maria will be presented before fans prior to their Ligue 1 opener against Gazelec Ajaccio on Aug. 16.
As noted by the Daily Mail, Di Maria has been handed the No. 11 jersey and becomes the latest in the long line of South American talent that has been signed by PSG since the takeover by the wealthy Qatari group four years ago.
"We are very proud that Angel Di Maria has chosen Paris St-Germain," PSG president Nasser Al Khelafi said. "He is an incredibly talented player, with frightening speed and ability to beat opposition players. He adds his name to the club;s strong South American community and, above all, the big Paris St-Germain family. By signing Angel Di Maria, Paris ST-Germain is once again showing the club's constant ambition to reach the summits of the European game."
Di Maria also took time to write to the supporters of Manchester United, saying "I write this note to thank all the Manchester United family for the great support received during the year I've been part of this club. When Manchester United chose me as part of their team, I felt extremely honored because I knew what this Club means and how it trusted me."
"Nevertheless, I'm aware things didn't work out as we all expected and believe me, I feel really sorry about it. However, in the career of a football player, sometimes the unexpected and unwanted may happen."
