'Mad Max: Fury Road' Cast News: Director George Miller Says the Late Heath Ledger was Initially Meant to Play Max
It is always hard to part with a beloved actor, especially one that was just reaching their prime. In a recent interview with George Miller, it was revealed that the director was initially looking to cast Heath Ledger as Max in 'Mad Max: Fury Road.'
Ledger's probably most notable performance came as his Joker portrayal in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight.' The actor saw his untimely death not much later in 2008.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, it was revealed that Miller and Ledger had many conversations about him portraying the titular role. Miller stated:
"Every time Heath [Ledger] would come through Sidney, he'd call in and we'd chat about Max. He had that same thing that Mel and Tom Hardy have-that maleness, charisma, and restless energy, which you need to play a relatively still character. The world lost someone great when he went. Tom was the next to walk through the door that had that vibe."
Most fans would likely concur with Miller's statement as Ledger's past performances really proved he had no limits.
As most know, the role was given to Tom Hardy who reportedly did the role a huge justice. Hardy coincidentally also played a villain role in Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy.
While the movie has received many positive reviews, it unfortunately suffered from a less than satisfactory opening weekend.
"The prospective next entry, should it get the greenlight, apparently even has a title, Mad Max: The Wasteland. Considering the enormous disparity between Fury Road's less-than-hoped-for performance and its widely positive reviews, it's possible that the buzz will eventually catch up to the film to create an overwhelming desire for said sequel," writes Cinema Blend.
