MacBook Air 2016 Release Date, Specs and Rumors: Retina To be Finally Announced at Apple Event?

Speculations about the 2016 MacBook Air's release date on Mar. 21 continue to spread around, but the rumors about the device featuring a retina display have yet to be confirmed.

Apple seems coy about confirming the release date for the 2016 MacBook Air although it already sent out invites for the Mar. 21 event. This is usually the time when the tech giant rolls out its laptop line.

What's clear for the moment, however, is the launch of the iPhone SE and iPad Air 3 during the event.

"We originally expected a new MacBook Air with Retina display to launch on 9 March 2015 at Apple's Spring Forward event," said MacWorld.

Instead, Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro with retina display last year.

"If Apple does give the MacBook Air a Retina refresh, then it would be logical to expect new 11in and 13in laptops in the spring of 2016," the report speculated of the new round of rumors for the MacBook Air 2016." "New MacBook Air models arrived in April of 2014, and in March of 2015."

MacBook Pro already features the retina display, said to reduce glare while maximizing the color and quality of the device. The 13-inch model has 2560x1600 resolution while the 15-inch model has a 2880x1800 resolution.

"Its high contrast ratio results in blacker blacks and whiter whites. And everything in between is rich and vibrant," according to Apple. "And text is so sharp, you'll feel like you're reading email, web pages, and documents on a printed page."

However, all these rumors, including the release date for the 2016 MacBook Air, will be answered during the Apple event on Mar. 21.
