MacBook Air 2016 Release Date Rumors: March Event Disappointed Fans; Next Stop In June?

The anticipated launch of the MacBook Air at Apple's Mar. 21, 2016 event didn't happen, much to the disappointment of fans. But then again, the rumors about the release date in June almost immediately started.

According to Mac Rumors, there are hints about the MacBook Air being released in the second calendar quarter.

"The second calendar quarter ends on June 30, meaning that new Macs could feasibly be introduced by WWDC 2016, which will likely take place between June 13-17 based on scheduling information available from the Moscone Center," it said.

The report seemed to be confirmed by Digi Times which claimed that the 13- and 15-inch models of MacBook Air will start shipping by the second quarter.

In fact, it reported that Asustek, Lenovo and Dell are gearing to roll out their own "ultra-thin notebooks" to prepare for the release date of MacBook Air 2016.

"Apple shipped 20.38 million Mac products in 2015, growing slightly by 4.08% on year," it said. "And with Apple's new ultra-thin MacBook, the sources expect the US vendor to continue enjoying growth in 2016 despite weakening demand for notebooks."

There's no price point yet for the MacBook Air 2016, but it's speculated that the 13-inch model may cost about $1,200. Of course, the 15-inch model will be more expensive.

The rumors have confirmed that the MacBook Air 2016 is going to be lighter and thinner. As to the specs, there's no clear confirmation yet on that end (particularly on the question whether it will feature a retina display or not) but it's clearly an enhancement of the outgoing 11-inch model.

Nevertheless, the news reports will start to take shape as the rumored release date for the MacBook Air 2016 in June draws near.
