Lynyrd Skynyrd Drummer Bob Burns News: Original Band Member Dies at Age 64 in Car Crash

It was a sad day last Friday for the music industry as another musical icon tragically died in a car crash last week. Bob Burns, the founding member and drummer of Lynyrd Skynyrd died at age 64 and several band members paid tribute in their social media accounts.

In a police report, a spokesperson told E! News that the accident left the great 64-year-old drummer dead in his vehicle in Cartersville. According to the report, Burns was alone in his car and upon approaching a right curve, he accidentally struck a mailbox and a tree.

The problem was that Burns didn't have his seatbelt on at the time of the incident. After finding out about the tragic death of the musician, several of his band members posted their heartfelt condolences for the family of Burns.

Original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd and guitarist Gary Rossington posted on the group's Facebook page saying, "Well, today I'm at a loss for words, but I just remember Bob being a funny guy," Rossington said adding, "He was just so funny, he used to do skits for us and make us laugh all the time, he was hilarious!"

Apparently, the last surviving members of the famous band with hit songs, "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird" are Rossington and Larry Junstrom. It has been said that the group was first known to be 'One Percent' before becoming 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' which is the name of their gym teacher from Jacksonville, Florida.

"Ironically, since we played Jacksonville yesterday. Dale, my daughter and I, went by the cemetery to see some of the guys in the band and my parents grave sites," Rossington continued in his post. "On the way back, we went by Bob Burns old house, it was there in the carport where we used to first start to practice with Skynyrd. My heart goes out to his family and God bless him and them in this sad time. He was a great great drummer," he added.
