'Lumines' News: Puzzle Game Lands On Android And iOS?

Mobcast and Q Entertainment's puzzle game "Lumines" is released.

"Lumines" is released on iOS and Android on Sept. 1. This serves as the puzzle game's debut on modern smartphones. It is added that the smartphone sees the "Lumines" game board in portrait mode and players use the phone's touch screen feature to move the blocks as they descend to the bottom of the screen.

Game creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi shared details on how the game fitted on smartphones. In his interview with Games Beat, he said that touch controls had come a long way and they had been able to learn a lot from other developers' experiences and the many titles before them, since the rise of touchscreen mobile devices.

According to Mizuguchi, it was a challenge that they had wanted to take on in bringing "Lumines" to Android and iOS, adding that they were confident that they had made something that worked really well with touch controls while preserving the original feel of the game that people loved.

"Lumines" is Q Entertainment's puzzle video game, which involves light and sound patterns. Similar to "Tetris" and "Columns," the game sees a 2x2 square made of four smaller blocks, which drops into the playing field and change appearance as the player progresses to a higher level.

Mobcast and Q Entertainment's "Lumines" was initially released for the PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, mobile phone, Java, and iOS in Dec. 2004.
