'Luka Cage' Season 2 Release Date, News: Netflix Confirms 'Luke Cage' For Second Season

Netflix has confirmed that it is picking up "Luke Cage" for a second season.

The streaming service made the announcement on December 4 on the series' official Twitter and Facebook pages, where they posted a short video featuring a sign in Pop's Barber Shop that read "Season 2 coming soon." The posts also came with Pop's own motto, "Always forward."

The renewal makes "Luke Cage" the third Marvel series to get a second season on the streaming giant. Marvel series "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" both received the greenlight for a second season after their well-received freshman seasons. "Daredevil" was also recently renewed for a third season.

"Luke Cage" stars Mike Cotler as Harlem, a bulletproof superhero who originated on "Jessica Jones." In the Marvel series, he was endowed with superhuman strength and impenetrable skin after an experiment on him went wrong. His goal is to stop running away from his past and face those who want to shake his alter ego.

Currently, the series is streaming the 13 episodes of its premiere season on Netflix.

"Luke Cage" season 1 was critically acclaimed because of its interesting storyline. Maureen Ryan of Variety wrote in her review of the series, "Nothing is cooler than watching bullets bounce off Luke Cage as he brings the ruckus and schools all the fools."

Aside from Mike Colter, other actors featured in the series are Rosario Dawson, Mahershala Ali, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi and Alfre Woodard. Cotler is also set to star in "The Defenders."
