'Lucifer' New Fox Series News: Network Picks up Pilot for DC Comics Spin-Off Show
It seems Fox has interest in adding another comic book adaptation to their television show line-up with the recent success of 'Gotham'. Fox has just ordered a 'Lucifer' pilot, spinning off the popular DC comic books by Neil Gaiman, 'Sandman' and 'Vertigo'.
"The TV series centers on Lucifer, who, bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals," writes Superherohype.
This plot deviates from the comic's original, where Lucifer leaves Hell to Los Angeles, and owns his own piano bar.
'Underworld' and 'Total Recall' remake director Len Wiseman is attached to direct the pilot.
This show will be one of many to usher in this year of the comic book takeover of television.
"'Lucifer' is one of many comic-inspired smallscreen adaptations currently in development. This pilot season, DC Comics' 'Supergirl', starring Melissa Benoist, landed at CBS. On the Marvel front, 'A.K.A. Jessica Jones', starring Krysten Ritter, plus three other series including 'Daredevil' are heading to Netflix, while 'Dreadstar' from Jim Starlin is coming to TV via Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink," writes Variety.
As it stands, there is no news yet on the air date of this upcoming pilot.
