Los Angeles Lakers News: NBA Team Actively Pursuing DeMarcus Cousins Trade

With the NBA Draft just a couple of days away and free agency barely a week away, the rumor mill is in full swing. One of the latest murmurs revolve around the Los Angeles Lakers and their reported thirst for Sacramento Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins.

As reported by Marc Stein of ESPN, the Lakers have emerged as one of the most determined trade suitors for the talented big man citing sources that say Los Angeles has been actively pursuing trade scenarios in recent weeks trying to come up with a package that could convince the Kings to part with their franchise center.

The report says that the Lakers, Kings, and the Orlando Magic have had exploratory discussions on a possible three-way deal that could put yet another talented big man in Hollywood. As noted by the report, all three teams hold picks that fall in the top 6 of the upcoming draft, with the Magic also having a talented center of its own that, in theory, could fill in the potential void left by cousins in Sacramento.

While the Kings, particularly its vice president Vlade Divac, have been vocal about their stance on not wanting to trade Cousins, the Lakers have had a history of making seemingly impossible teams fall through, most recently with the help of these very same Magic when it aided Los Angeles in landing Dwight Howard.

The Lakers hold the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft are in position to draft talents like Duke's Jahlil Okafor and ultra-talented point guard D'Angelo Russell. Cousins meanwhile, apart from making his first All-Star team last season, is in contract until the summer of 2018.

As noted by CBS Sports, another thing that could work in the Lakers' favor should a deal push through is the fact that Cousins had to endure five losing seasons peppered with coaching and ownership changes.
