LA Lakers NBA 2015 News, Rumors: Will Steve Nash Join Lakers' Coaching Staff?
Even though Steve Nash was compelled to retire as a basketball player, he is not completely out of the game. Recent reports state that Nash could be a valuable addition to any team, including the Los Angeles Lakers, as a coach.
According to Christian Post, this, however, does not mean that Nash can pursue the footsteps of other former Lakers guards who are at present serving as head coaches in the league. Derek Fisher and Byon Scott are two former Lakers guards who are currently holding coaching positions. While Derek Fisher is the head coach of the New York Knicks, course Byron Scott is his counterpart in the Los Angeles Lakers.
Therefore, many ask why not Steve Nash? In fact, many have always believed that this former Lakers point guard is excellent coach material. Nash is not only an experienced player, but being a former Most Valuable Player twice, he is sure to be brimming with ideas that younger players can benefit from.
Before retiring from the game officially, Nash had already been mentoring a number of Lakers guards like Jordan Clarkson. The results are there for all to see, despite the fact that the Lakers could not make it to the playoffs.
It is possible that Nash may a head coach of some team some day. However, to begin with, the former point guard could be included in the coaching staff of the Lakers. If it is not possible for him to find a place in the coaching staff of the Lakers, he may join some other team like the Phoenix Suns, which had originally introduced him in the 1996 NBA draft.
In fact, in the past, several other NBA guards with outstanding careers as players later turned to coaching. Jason Kidd of Milwaukee Bucks) and Steve Kerr of Golden State Warriors are examples of such transformations, but only time will tell whether Nash will be as successful. In fact, no one, not even Nash, will know until he tries.
So, the Lakers should be benefiting if they look into that possibility.
