Los Angeles Clippers NBA 2015 News: Jamal Crawford May Not Come Back at All this Season
Outside of the top two teams in the West, the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies, the rest of the conference has had to deal with some kind of significant injury during the course of the long season.
The Los Angeles Clippers have done a good enough job to sustain their play despite losing All-Star forward Blake Griffin for 16 games to a staph infection on his elbow, and more recently, Jamal Crawford to a calf contusion; although, as the Los Angeles Times reports, they may have to do so without the latter for a while longer.
Crawford has been out of the Clippers' lineup since suffering a calf injury in a March 9 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He appeared on the practice court for some light shooting Monday for the first time since then, but no one in the Clippers camp seems to think that a return is imminent.
"The fact [Clippers' trainer Jasen Powell] didn't even mention it tells me he didn't think it was a big deal that he was there. Usually, when a guy is out on the floor, the trainer runs up to your office and says, "Hey, Jamal is out, that's good.' They didn't say a word about it, so I'm not reading into it," Clippers coach Doc Rivers said.
Griffin, who after coming back from his own injury estimates he'll be at full strength in 7-10 days, had a more definitive diagnosis.
"You can't rush him in. He can barely walk."
The streaky shooter has missed the last 10 games, and had to get blood drained out of the calf to reduce swelling. Earlier reports said that Rivers thinks there is a chance the reigning Sixth Man of the Year might not return this season.
"I know we need him, so I'm concerned in that, but I don't lose sleep over it. I have faith he'll be back, but I have a concern that he might not be, and that's not a good thought," Rivers said.
