From the time the producers of 'Longmire' announced that they were looking for a new network to air the popular crime drama, fans of the show have been wondering which one will be chosen.

As fans of show can recall, the series was recently dropped by A&E.

If latest developments are any indication, it appears that USA Network may be back in the running. On Saturday, CarterMatt reported that the network has joined the list of serious contenders for obtaining rights to the show.

While the producers have only officially acknowledged bringing the popular crime drama to Amazon and Netflix, the momentum USA Network is gaining might just be enough to bring the two together.

However, there is no official confirmation in this regard either from the producers or the USA Network.

After airing the show for three seasons, last month, A&E suddenly decided to drop 'Longmire' despite that show's decent ratings. In fact, even as the showrunners ended 'Longmire' Season 3 finale with a cliffhanger last month they did not know what to expect in terms of a fourth season.

Nevertheless, 'Longmire' was A&E's highest-rated scripted series and its second-highest-rated series behind the popular reality show 'Duck Dynasty'.

Meanwhile, fans of 'Longmire' have expressed their distaste for A&E's decision to cancel the show. Surprisingly enough, the network decided to drop the show, not because it had poor ratings, but because the company considered that its viewer demographic was not making them enough money.

Initially, A&E issued a press statement explaining the reason behind the cancellation. The network cited that A&E wants to own their TV shows and that they want to focus on in-house productions. However, the real reason was revealed later - it was because 'Longmire' viewership is allegedly "too old" for A&E.

Meanwhile, in case 'Longmire' fails to return for a fourth season on a new network soon, it is possible that it might make a comeback during the second half of 2015. However, this would require some fast action on the part of other networks, but if the show fails to secure a new home in the near future, that may just mean the end of 'Longmire' for good.
