'Little Big Planet' News: Online Game Servers To Switch Off For Good In Japan

Fans are set to face a bad news, as Media Molecule's "LittleBigPlanet's" game servers are set to pull out in Japan.

Some Japanese game servers for "LittleBigPlanet" are set to shut down, Eurogamer has learned. As per the publication, these are Racing and Portable servers; however, it is confirmed that the title's servers 1, 2, and 3, are set to continue their operations in territories outside Japan. Whether this happens in other territories or not is yet to be revealed.

The said confirmation cam from "LittleBigPlanet" community staff Steven Isbell, who answered Twitter user TomPhillips question on whether servers 1 to 3 were staying, since Portable and Racing were shutting down. On July 1, Isbell wrote that the original "Little BigPlanet," LittleBigPlanet 2," and "LittleBigPlanet 3" were staying with no plans to shut them down.

While the exact reason behind the Japanese server closure remains vague at the moment, it is also revealed that Japanese gamers will no longer be able to see and play other gamers' stages or upload their own, access online play, or utilize the title's community functions, as per NeoGAF. Along with the aforementioned consequences, the recent server shutdown also disables games to share their levels, which is the title's main marketing feature.

The closure of the Japanese "LittleBigPlanet" serves also indicate a short lifespan for the game title in the said territory. It can be recalled that the most recent title is "LittleBigPlanet 3," which was released on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4" way back in November 2014.

"LittleBigPlanet" is playable on PlayStation platforms, including Portable and Vita.
