Green Bay Packers News: Lions’ Safety Glover Quin Says ‘God Meant for Jordy Nelson to Get Hurt’
The Green Bay Packers confirmed the organization's worst fears that wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who when down with a knee injury during Sunday's preseason game against the Pittsburg Steelers, would indeed miss the entire coming season with a torn ACL.
While Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman both agreed that the NFL preseason should be shortened to avoid such injuries to players in meaningless games, Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin opines that the length of the preseason does not matter because players like Nelson are predestined by God to be injured.
"I hared that Jordy got hurt, but in my beliefs, and the way I believe I was God meant for Jordy to get hurt," Quin told MLive.com, as reported by CBSSports.com.
"If he wouldn't have got hurt [on Sunday], if he wouldn't have played in that game, if he wouldn't have practiced anymore, and the next time he walked on the field would have been opening day, I feel like he would have got hurt on opening day," Quin added.
Recently, God has been stirring up the sports world with former world champion Manny Pacquiao crediting God and salt water for helping heal his injured rotator cuff, and Seattle Seahawks quarterback saying God spoke to him in the NFC title game.
Quin, though, also offered a more tangible take on Nelson's injury.
"They've got three weeks to make adjustments and prepare before opening day, as opposed to having it happening on opening day and now you're in the season and now Jordy gets hurt," Glover said. "It happening in the preseason, you hate that it happened, but that gives them time to make adjustments and try to find something."
Nelson went up to make a catch during the first quarter of their preseason game against the Steelers on Sunday, then crumpled to the field despite making no contact with a defender.
