Lionel Messi Transfer Rumors 2015: Barcelona Star Player Alerts Manchester United

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has reportedly alerted Manchester United about his upcoming transfer.

The speculation about the alert was fueled by Messi's admission that he doesn't know where he will be next year. The player added that the future is unknown especially in the world of football.

Manchester United is the sole English club that can bid for Messi since Barcelona would most probably demand an amount of £195m for their star player. Messi's 5-year contract amounted to £16.3m per season. If the calculations would be factored in, Messi's total transfer cost would be a whopping £275m.

Manchester's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward previously hinted that the club has unlimited budget.

"Whether it's a [world] record or not doesn't really resonate with us. What resonates is an elite player that the manager wants who is going to be a star for Manchester United," Woodward said.

To support the claim, football finance expert shared his analysis towards the potential buy-out saying that only Manchester United and Real Madrid can afford Messi based on "revenues and cash reserves."

Other clubs can probably afford Messi if the payment will be staggered, but Barcelona will most likely decline that kind of offer.

Chelsea was rumored to get Messi but the club is now out of the picture due to Financial Fair Play rules. Chelsea's assistant manager Steve Holland said that they will not be able to sign-up someone like Messi due to the FFP.

Adding to the transfer speculations is the rumor that Messi has a troubled relationship with Barcelona coach Luis Enrique. The rumors started when Messi failed to show up for training after Enrique was hired to replace the sacked director Andoni Zubizarreta.

When Messi was asked for comments about his relationship with the new coach, he replied "it's a manager-player relationship, just like any other in the dressing room."

Messi and the rest of the Barcelona members will play against Manchester City on Feb. 24, 2015 at City of Manchester Stadium.
