‘LG Wine Smart’ Flip Phone News: Andoid-Based Device to Make Global Debut in Select Markets

In April, LG Electronics launched its flagship smartphone, the LG G4, but the response from the public has been somewhat lukewarm. This has, in turn, affected the South Korean tech titan's quarterly results and forced the company to focus on mid-range products.

According to reports, apart from smartphones with sleek body and large displays, flip phones are making a comeback. Hence, LG has decided to launch its new "LG Wine Smart," an Android flip phone that is marketed in South Korea ad "LG Gentle," globally.

According to IB Times, preliminary reports stated that the LG Wine Smart or LG Gentle would be sold exclusive in the manufacturer's domestic market. However, GSM Arena reports that following the lackluster performance of LG G4, the company has changed the plan and now this flip phone will be released in selected markets globally, including France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Kazakhstan, Japan and the UK.

It is worth mentioning here that the configuration of the LG Gentle and its international version, the LG Wine Smart, will be the same. This new LG flip phone runs on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS, straight out of the box.

The handset sports a 3.2-inch IPS LCD display, and packs a HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) screen resolution. The LG Wine Smart is powered by a quad-core processor, clocked at 1.1 GHz and supported by 1 GB of RAM configuration.

Nevertheless, the internal storage capacity of the LG Wine Smartphone is its downside as it has only 4 GB of native memory. However, the memory can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The handset features a modest 3.15-megapixel rear-facing camera.

The LG Wine Smart measures 117.7 x 58.7 x 16.6 mm and weighs 143 g. In addition to the standard connectivity options, the device also supports 4G LTE. Moreover, the entire configuration is held together and powered by a Li-Ion 1,700 mAh battery unit.

The LG Wine Smart is available in two color options - navy blue and burgundy.
