LG Watch Urbane Update: New All-Metal Luxury Smartwatch With LTE Capability to Feature MWC 2015
Impressed by the all-metal luxury design of the LG Watch Urbane, tech experts have tipped that only this smartwatch possesses the potential to compete with the upcoming Apple Watch from the Cupertino-based tech giant. LG Electronics, on the other hand, has decided to take the Urbane a step ahead by announcing a version of the smartwatch with LTE capabilities at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona early next month.
According to IB Times, the LTE capability will enable the LG Watch Urbane to hook up to mobile carriers and include a push-to-talk (PTT) feature, practically turning the device into a walkie-talkie on the user's wrist, offering an unlimited range and allowing multi-party conversations.
Moreover, LG Watch Urbane LTE will incorporate near field communication (NFC) technology, which will enable the users to make use of a virtual wallet on their smartwatch. According to LG Electronics, the payment options include meals, movies and transit fares. A press release issued by the South Korean manufacturer reads, "Imagine being able to purchase movie tickets with the LG Watch Urbane LTE and then receiving a reminder of the movie a few hours in advance, all based on the payment information."
A number of available smartphones already have cellular connections, but the LG Watch Urbane will be the first to feature an LTE connection. In addition, it is also the first all-metal luxury wearable Android device. The Urbane LTE will be equipped with a 700mAh battery, much larger compared to the 410mAh battery in the original LG Watch Urbane model, to powder the smartwatch's advanced technology.
However, all other hardware features of the LG Watch Urbane LTE will be similar to those of the base model LG Watch Urbane, including its Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip and the Android Wear operating system. The device will come with a 1.3-inch (320 x 320 resolution) P-OLED display, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. The sensors of the device will include gyro, accelerometer, compass, barometer and heart rate. In addition, the LG Watch Urbane LTE is also dust-resistant and waterproof, having an Ingress Protection rating of IP67.
