LG Watch Urbane News: LG to Launch All-Metal Body Smartwatch at MWC 2015 to Compete with Apple Watch

While Apple has yet to confirm the release date its much-awaited wearable device dubbed as Apple Watch, LG Electronics confirmed on Monday that the company will be launching its maiden all-metal premium smartwatch LG Watch Urbane at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona next month.

According to Latin Post, the LG Watch Urbane will be competing with the G Watch and G Watch R, which are both available in the market, and pose a challenge to its rival Apple Inc., which is also reported to launch the Apple Watch in March.

Different from the smartwatches already available in the market, LG will be marketing the LG Watch Urbane as a classy accessory for the sophisticated wearer, both male and female. This upcoming wearable from the South Korean tech titan comes with an archetypal timepiece look available in two variations - silver and gold case, which are is highlighted by a natural leather straps. The consumers have an option to buy a LG Watch Urbane with 22 mm-wide band.

There is no doubt about the fact that LG's selection of a natural leather band the smartwatch is really smart, bearing in mind that recently Fitbit users have filed a lawsuit after there were complaints that the fitness synthetic wristband of the smartwatch causes skin irritations and rashes.

The LG Watch Urbane has a 1.3-inch, round plastic OLED face, similar to that of the G Watch R, but it comes with a stainless steel body with a silver or gold finish. The touch-based user interface of this smartwatch is compatible with smartphones that run with Android 4.3 as well as above on account of a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip.

Recently, LG Mobile President and CEO Juno Cho issued a statement that reads, "The LG Watch Urbane's classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices." He added, "LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets."

Since the move to launch the LG Watch Urbane comes just weeks before the debut of the much-anticipated Apple Watch debut, it remains to be seen how consumers receive the device.
