Close on the heels of their collaboration for the Oscar-nominated documentary 'Virunga,' American actor and producer Lenonardo DiCaprio and online streaming service Netflix will again be joining hands to make a series of documentary films as well as a docu-series, which will be exclusively premiered on Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio's production house Appian Way has entered into a multi-year first-look agreement for non-fiction projects on environmental and conservation themes. The agreement includes original documentaries as well as docu-series and acquisitions. In other words, now Appian Way is expected to be active acquiring documentaries at the film festivals, which are flooded with eco-themed documentaries these days.

In addition, the new collaboration offers DiCaprio an opportunity to espouse his producing skills with his long-standing role as a patron and activist of environment-related issues. Henceforth, the actor will be the producer or executive producer of all the forthcoming partnership projects.

Earlier, Netflix and DiCaprio collaborated for 'Virunga,' which narrates the plight of mountain gorillas in Africa and earned an Oscar nomination the best documentary feature category. The news on 'Virunga' was published for the first time by The Hollywood Reporter.

DiCaprio told the entertainment website, "Working with Netflix on 'Virunga' has sparked a shared vision about projects that we want to develop and bring to viewers," adding, "There's never been a more critical time for our planet or more of a need for gifted storytellers to help us all make sense of the issues we face. Through this partnership with Netflix, I hope to give documentary filmmakers doing urgent and important work the chance to have their films seen immediately by audiences all around the world."

Meanwhile, Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, observed, "This partnership is a natural extension of our incredible relationship with Leo on 'Virunga.' We look forward to building on our shared success with more thought-provoking, high-quality documentaries and docu-series."

It is worth mentioning here that Appian Way already has a first-look agreement for theatrical motion pictures with Warner Bros. and is currently in post-production on Dennis Iliadis' 'Home' and Dan Myrick's 'Under the Bed.' The upcoming movies of the company include Ben Affleck's 'Live by Night,' Jaume Collet Serra's 'Akira, and 'Joseph Kosinski's 'Twilight Zone' reboot, as well as an untitled project by Richard Jewell that stars Jonah Hill.
